Shire Fact Number Four

'Up on the castle ramparts of Herstmonceux may be seen the towering nine-foot-tall figure of a drummer beating out a rhythmical tattoo'.

and, strangest of all perhaps, on the cover of "Discovering Hill Figures" a giant panda and a lion appear to have been set loose amongst the fabled white horses of the British countryside...

Youngsters won't remember those terrible times when giant pandas freely roamed the land, wreaking havoc and leaving death and destruction in their black and white wake...

The lion is at Longleat which might provide some sort of clue as to its origin if only I could work it out...
